Former world champion believes Josh Taylor deserves a spot in Hall of Fame image

In the wake of Josh Taylor hanging up his gloves and stepping away from boxing, fellow former world champion, Carl Frampton, has sung his praises.

Taylor officially announced his retirement from boxing on Monday (July 21), explaining that severe damage to his eye meant his sight was at risk.

Whilst it was unfortunate for boxing fans to see the Scotsman step back from fighting, it was clear his long-term health was at risk and people will now get to reminisce on his superb career achievements.

Taylor managed to become undisputed light-welterweight champion of the world after beating Jose Ramirez in just his 18th professional fight in 2021. He also reigned as the commonwealth champion in the same division early on in his professional career.

The Scotsman also had a successful amateur career, as he won a silver medal at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, in addition to securing a gold medal four years later at the games in Glasgow.

This level of success is enough for Taylor to be named in the boxing Hall of Fame according to former two-weight world champion, Frampton.

The North Irishman told BBC Scotland: "Josh should be proud of everything he's done in his career. Becoming undisputed champion in 18 fights in a marquee division should be recognised as one of the great British sporting feats ever."

Frampton, who was a stablemate of Taylor when both were being trained by Shane McGuigan, went on to boldly say: "Undisputed light-welterweight champion in 18 fights is Hall of Fame behaviour."

After winning his first 19 professional fights, Taylor went on to lost his next three, including his rematch with Jack Catterall and his final career fight against Ekow Essuman two months ago.
