One of the premier events in all of sports — never mind just tennis — begins this month in Flushing Meadows, NY. The 2025 US Open men's and women's singles tournaments should add to the lore of what has been one of the better years for major championships in recent memory.
From August 24 to September 7, all eyes in the tennis world will be locked onto the hard court surfaces of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens. The 145th edition of the prestigious US Open will feature $75 million in prize money.
You've probably heard of the defending singles champions. Men's reigning champ Jannik Sinner holds the No. 1 spot on the world tennis rankings. Women's 2024 champion Aryna Sabalenka sits atop the WTA rankings. They have seven Grand Slam titles between them, but only the one each at Flushing Meadows.
Sinner and Sabalenka will have plenty plenty of competition over the next few weeks. Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz continues to be the biggest thorn in Sinner's side, while Sabalenka could very well have to go through American Coco Gauff to repeat. Alcaraz won his only US Open in 2022, a year before Gauff became the youngest American woman since Serena Williams to win the event.
Sinner has already won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year, the latter triumph coming against Alcaraz. He now holds a 4-3 grand slam advantage over Alcaraz, who won the 2025 French Open. Both are shorter than 2/1 to emerge victorious on September 8.
The ladies' side has enjoyed a bit more parity. Madison Keys won the Australian Open, Gauff won the French Open, and Iga Świątek prevailed at Wimbledon. Sabalenka enters the New York major as the odds-on favourite, though. And how fun will it be to get some value bets in on 45-year-old Venus Williams?!
Who will prevail in the 2025 US Open men's and women's singles championships? Let's look at the odds, then make our predictions and best bets for the final major of the year.

2025 US Open men's singles tournament best bet to win
Carlos Alcaraz (7/5, Betfair)
It's easy to see why Sinner has been declared the odds-on favourite here — he looked phenomenal at Wimbledon — but it's also tough to resist Alcaraz at 23/10 odds. His hard-court record speaks for itself, with win percentages of 75 percent in 2025 and 79 percent in 2024.
Alcaraz recently became the first player since Novak Djokovic to record 50 wins in four consecutive seasons. He's as steady and consistent a winner as they come, and he has largely owned Sinner in their head-to-head battles over the years. Take the value here.
2025 US Open men's singles tournament best long-shot bet
Danlil Medvedev (66/1 with Betfair)
These odds are simply outrageous, as Medvedev is as short as 18/1 on Bet365 and most other books. If you can find 70-1 or longer (we've seen Betfair and Paddy Power both that long), you simply have to take it. Medvedev has far too strong of a hard-court track record to make him this much of a long-shot.
Of Medvedev's 20 tour-level titles, a whopping 18 of them have been on hard courts. He dominates on hard surfaces not just on his serve, but also with his return game. The 29-year-old simply gets to a different level on this style of court, and he's a fantastic value to pull off the upset win.

2025 US Open women's singles tournament best bet to win
Aryna Sabalenka (3/1 with Betfair)
Sabalenka needs a major win. After all the physical setbacks she has endured over the past couple of years, Sabalenka has struggled to finish the job at grand slams in 2025. However, a win at Flushing Meadows would preserve her No. 1 ranking.
Anyone who saw Sabalenka's 2024 US Open triumph — or either of her Australian Open victories — knows how dominant her game can be on hard surfaces. With her confidence likely high on the court she ruled one year ago, Sabalenka should finally get her elusive major win in 2025.
2025 US Open's women's singles tournament best value bet
Madison Keys (25/1, Paddy Power)
If Sabalenka once again falls short, it could easily be Keys that keeps her from glory. Keys prevailed over the world No. 1 in this year's Australian Open, denying Sabalenka a third victory at that event.
Keys is no sleeper — she's as confident as they come, and a strong bet at any odds longer than 18/1. The American's powerful groundstrokes, massive serve and clutch forehand could easily propel her to another title if she gets hot at the right time at Flushing Meadows.
