The second semi-final of what has been a fascinating and entertaining UEFA Women’s Championship this summer pits two of the heavyweights of European football against each other.

Record eight-time European champions Germany have squeezed themselves into a final four clash with world champions Spain in Zurich.

The Germans defeated a strong France side on penalties in the quarter-finals, whilst Spain continued their dominant run by comfortably defeating hosts Switzerland 2-0 in the last eight.

Spain are seeking to back up their 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup triumph and continue their international rampage, whilst Germany will look to restore a more familiar European order. Who has the edge? Let's take a look.

Germany vs. Spain Women's Euro 2025 prediction

For a game that brings together two of Europe's elite, it is actually quite lopsided in terms of the expectation and the betting markets. Spain are priced up as fairly comfortable favourites for the semi, and are given an almost 70% chance of victory.

Paddy Power favour the Spanish to win at 4/9, while Germany are back at 5/1 and the draw is 7/2.

The most recent meeting between these two powerhouses came last summer at another major tournament as they clashed in the bronze medal match at the 2024 Summer Olympics, with Germany edging past the deflated Spanish 1-0 in Lyon, courtesy of a 65th-minute penalty scored by Giuliana Gwinn.

The Sporting News' Score Prediction: Germany 1-3 Spain

  • World champions Spain are rated 69.4% likely to beat Germany inside 90 minutes according to the latest odds with Paddy Power.

Germany vs. Spain team news

  • Germany have a couple of fresh suspension issues to deal with as key attacking midfielder Sjoeke Nusken is now missing through suspension, alongside defender Kathrin Hendrich. But Carlotta Wamser has returned from her own suspension.
  • Germany captain Giulia Gwinn suffered a serious knee injury in the group stages and she is out of the tournament, but right-back Sarai Linder could return for the final, albeit she is definitely missing for the semi.
  • Spain coach Montserrat Tome took the decision to drop Cata Coll for their final group game, but she returned between the sticks for their quarter-final defeat of Switzerland and should keep her place.
  • Centre-back Laia Aleixandri is missing through suspension for the Spanish, whilst exciting young attacker Athenea del Castillo is a doubt having been spotted heavily limping in training.

Germany vs. Spain Bet Builder tips

Our bet builder tip for Germany vs. Spain Women is Spain to win and Alexia Putellas to score at anytime in the match  you can back that at 7/2 with SpreadEx.

The Spanish have been dominant in this tournament with 14 goals scored in the group stages in three successive victories against Portugal, Belgium and Italy. They then eased past Switzerland in the quarters and simply look a level above most, if not all, of the other European sides.

The heartbeat of the team is Barcelona midfielder Alexia Putellas, and if Spain are to, as expected, comfortably breeze past the Germans then it will likely involve Putellas being effective and efficient in the final third of the pitch.

Germany vs. Spain: Head-to-Head

Surprisingly, given how strong the two sides are, Germany and Spain have only ever faced off against each other on seven occasions in the past and just once in the last three years since Spain emerged as one of the dominant forces in women’s international football.

Overall, Germany have beaten the Spanish four times, with the other three meetings all being draws.

Who are the favourites to win Euro 2025?

Spain are the big favourites with the bookmakers to win Euro 2025 at a best price of 4/6 on AK Bets.

They have scored 16 times in their four matches so far, including four for tournament top goalscorer Esther Gonzalez and three for two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas.

When is the Euro 2025 final?

The final of the 2025 Women's Euros will take place at St. Jakob-Park, Basel at 5 p.m. BST on Sunday, July 27.

Spain are the big favourites but Germany had won the tournament six times in a row before the Netherlands prevailed in 2017 — England are the holders after beating Germany after extra time in the 2022.
