หลายปีที่ผ่านมา ถือเป็นยุคทองของวงการแบดมินตันไทย เมื่อหลายคนก้าวขึ้นไปอยู่ในระดับแถวหน้าของโลก หนึ่งในนั้นก็คือ “วิว” กุลวุฒิ วิทิตศานต์
นอกเหนือจากการคว้าเหรียญเงินโอลิมปิก 2024 ที่ปารีสแล้ว เขายังได้สร้างประวัติศาสตร์เป็นนักแบดมินตันชายไทยคนแรกที่ก้าวขึ้นสู่ตำแหน่งมือวางอันดับ 1 ของโลก
ทว่า วิว อาจจะมาไม่ถึงจุดนี้ หากไม่มีโรคภูมิแพ้ เรื่องราวเป็นอย่างไร ติดตามไปพร้อมกัน
กีฬาเป็นยาวิเศษ
For Kulawut, badminton was likely among the first sports he knew, as his father, Nattaphat Wititsan, was a badminton coach, causing him to absorb it unconsciously.
However, the reason Kuldawut decided to pick up a badminton racket at the age of 7 wasn't due to love or passion for the sport, but rather because he suffered from allergies.
“จริง ๆ จุดเริ่มต้นเนี่ย ก็คือ ณ วัยเด็ก ผมเป็นโรคภูมิแพ้ นะครับ ก็เข้าโรงพยาบาลบ่อยครั้ง แล้วก็ทำให้คุณพ่อคุณแม่เสียค่าใช้จ่ายเยอะ” กุลวุฒิ กล่าวกับ Thairath Sport
“พอดีว่าคุณพ่อเนี่ยเป็นครูสอนแบดมินตัน ก็เลยพาผมมาเล่นแบดมินตันเพื่อ ให้มีเหงื่อครับ เพื่อลดค่าใช้จ่ายอะไรเงี้ย พอเรามีเหงื่อ ภูมิแพ้เราก็ดีขึ้น ก็ประหยัดค่าใช้จ่ายได้มากขึ้นครับ ผมเป็นคนที่หายใจเวลาตอนกลางคืนไม่ออก แต่ ณ ตอนนี้ก็ค่อนข้างดีขึ้น คือยังไม่ได้หายขาดนะครับ แต่ว่าดีขึ้นกว่าเดิมกว่าตอนเด็กมาก”
“นั่นแหละคือจุดเริ่มต้นที่ผมเล่นกีฬาชนิดนี้ครับ ตอนนั้นคือเล่นเพื่อสุขภาพผมดีขึ้นเท่านั้นเอง ไม่ได้มองว่าตอนนั้นเราต้องชอบแบดมินตันเลย พอจับไม้แล้วเราชอบเลย ผมไม่รู้สึกว่าเราชอบตอนนั้นนะ เล่นเพื่อสุขภาพอย่างเดียวครับ”
Although it wasn't a serious commitment, it showed his father his son's potential as a skilled badminton player. This led to View joining the Senanikom Badminton Club, a club near his home, at the age of 8, marking a turning point that solidified his dedication to this path.
“รายการแรกน่าจะเป็นรายการ ศิษย์เอก คือรายการที่มือใหม่ลง ตอนนั้นได้ที่ 3 มา ก็ได้ทั้งเหรียญได้ทั้งเงินรางวัล แล้วเรารู้สึกว่าเอ๊ย! มันเป็นสิ่งที่เราสามารถ แบ่งเบาภาระครอบครัวได้ มันเลยเป็นสิ่งที่ทำให้ผมมุ่งมั่นตั้งใจครับ” วิวย้อนความหลัง
หลังจากนั้นตอนอายุ 13 ปี กุลวุฒิ ก็ได้ย้ายไปอยู่กับ โรงเรียนบ้านทองหยอด สถาบันแบดมินตัน ผู้ปลุกปั้น “เมย์-รัชนก อินทนนท์” แชมป์โลกหญิงเดี่ยวชาวไทย และไอดอลในดวงใจของเขา
“ถ้าเป็นผู้ชาย เป็น พี่แมน บุญศักดิ์ พลสนะ แล้วก็ต่างประเทศก็เป็น ลี ชอง เว่ย จากมาเลเซีย แต่ถ้าเป็นผู้หญิง ไอดอลของผู้หญิงก็คือ พี่เมย์ รัชนก ครับ เป็นรุ่นพี่ทีมเดียวกับผม เป็นคนที่ดีมาก ๆ เลย อัธยาศัยดีมาก เฟรนด์ลี่มาก ๆ แล้วก็เป็นคนขี้แกล้งขี้เล่น ผมรู้สึกว่าเป็นไอดอลของใครหลาย ๆ คนด้วย” กุลวุฒิกล่าว
Being at Baan Thongyod has led to continuous improvement in Kunlavut's skills, resulting in numerous youth-level awards. These include national championships in the U14, U16, and U19 categories, as well as Asian championships in the U15, U17, and U19 divisions.
In 2017, View made history by becoming the first Thai person to win a world championship in the boys' singles category at the junior level (under 19 years old) at the age of just 16 years and 5 months in a tournament in Indonesia.

ไทยคนแรก
After successfully defending his world junior championship title again in 2018 at the age of 17, Kunlavut decided to move up to compete in the senior category to accumulate points in the world rankings.
He performed quite well, securing five championships during the year 2018-2019, including the Yonex Sunrise Nepal Series 2018, Iran Fajr International Challenge 2019, Yonex Polish Open 2019, Finnish Open 2019, and Spanish International 2019.
Following that, Kunlavut consistently began making a name for himself in major tournaments, notably reaching the finals of the Spain Masters 2020, Swiss Open 2021, World Tour Finals 2021, and the World Championships 2022.
However, it's most unfortunate that in the end,วิว had to concede defeat to Viktor Axelsen, the then world number 1 from Denmark, in all tournaments, settling for the runner-up position as consolation.
Despite this, Kunlavut used it as motivation to move forward, eventually achieving success by winning the German Open 2022, India Open 2023, and Thailand Open 2023, as well as becoming the first Thai man in history to win the World Championship in singles in 2023.

However, it appears that Kunlavut isn't stopping there, as in 2024 he forged a new legend for Thai badminton by capturing the silver medal in the men's singles at the Paris Olympics, marking a historic achievement for The Badminton Association of Thailand.
After that, the world saw him differently. Kunlavut was no longer an underdog, but someone poised to challenge for the world number 1 spot, a position no Thai man had ever achieved.
He kicked off 2025 by winning the Indonesia Masters, followed by The Asia Championship in China, which propelled him from world number 5 to number 2.
In May 2025, Thailand celebrated a joyous occasion nationwide as Kunlavut successfully reached the finals of the Singapore Open, propelling him to become the world's number 1 player, setting a record as the first Thai man to achieve this in singles.
With such achievements, it's clear that Kunlavut is seen as a key player for The Thai national team in their pursuit of gold medals at this year's Southeast Asian Games. He previously secured two gold medals in the men's singles and men's team events four years ago.
Furthermore, his recent near-miss for the world championship title, following a loss to China's Shi Yuqi at the 2025 World Championships in Paris, will serve as an additional motivator for View, making him particularly determined for the upcoming SEA Games, which Thailand will host.
