■予期せぬ形で優勝争いから脱落
今年の大相撲は11月に行われた九州場所をもって本場所の全日程が終了し、現在は冬巡業が行われている。その冬巡業を休場している力士の一人が横綱・大の里だ。
大の里は九州場所13日目終了時点で優勝争いで2敗とトップタイだったが、同日に行われた関脇・安青錦との取組で左肩を痛めた。翌14日目の大関・琴櫻戦で黒星を喫した後、千秋楽では「左肩鎖関節脱臼により1カ月の安静加療が求められる」という診断書を提出して休場することになった。

■角界OBはタチの悪い故障だと指摘
元小結の臥牙丸氏が、2005年の九州場所から2020年の九州場所まで現役を務めた経験を踏まえ、大の里の故障について懸念を表明しました。臥牙丸氏は12月11日に、自身の公式YouTubeチャンネル「ガガちゃんねる【GAGA CHANNEL】」で動画を公開し、九州場所で注目した点について語りました。
その中で、同氏は「（大の里が負った）脱臼は骨折よりも厄介だ。（状態が）回復しても、癖になってしまうと再び外れやすくなる。さらに、肩の怪我はテーピングで固定することが難しい。指や手首であれば何とか固定できるが、肩は厄介だ」と、そのケアの困難さを強調した。
Furthermore, he asserted that once a condition develops, it might manifest during practice or even while sleeping, and since there's no surgical option and no way for those around to assist, everyone can only pray.
臥牙丸氏 asserted that the decision to withdraw from The Kyushu tournament was "the right call for me. Because if I dislocated it again right after it popped out, I could have been forced to retire. It would have become a serious situation." This suggests that the injury carries a significant risk of worsening or recurring.
■大事をとって初場所休場もアリ？
The medical certificate previously mentioned suggests that Dai no Sato is expected to see a significant improvement in his symptoms by Late December. However, it remains uncertain how much of his physical condition and competitive feel he can regain in the approximately two weeks leading up to the next New Year's tournament, which begins on January 11th.
大の里の初場所への出場が実現するかどうかは現時点では不明確だが、もし彼の状態が完全に回復しない場合、休場も現実的な選択肢となり得る。精神的な困難は当然予想されるが、無理をして出場して状況を悪化させるよりも、はるかに賢明な判断ではないだろうか。
Furthermore, Ōnosato has achieved 11 or more wins for three consecutive tournaments starting from the 2025 Nagoya Basho, his first as a Yokozuna, and secured his inaugural Yokozuna championship in the Autumn Basho. Given that he has consistently delivered results since his promotion, it is anticipated that even if he were to withdraw from a tournament, the scrutiny from The Yokozuna Deliberation Council (Yokozuna Shingi Kai) would not be overly severe.
