The 24-year-old World Championships bronze medalist from India last won a Super 300 title at the Syed Modi International in Lucknow in 2024. A clinical and composed performance from Sen saw him capture the first title in 2025.

Sen's road to the title was marked with grit and maturity. He overcame several top opponents en route the final, before defeating world No.26 Tanaka in the final.

"I have seen a lot of ups and downs this season, with a few injuries at the start of the season. But I kept my hard work going throughout the season, and I am very happy to end the season on a good note," said Lakshya after winning the title.

The Indian shuttler executed his plans to perfection in the finals. After a close first game, he dominated the second to close out the match in 38 minutes.

"In the second set, I was quite far off in the lead, but I didn't want to get too inside my head, so I wouldn't relax too much. In the back of my mind, it was there, but I was just trying to focus on playing one point at a time," he added.

It has been a difficult year for the Indian shuttler, who suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the bronze medal match at the Paris Olympics last year. In 2025, his best result before the Australian Open triumph was a runners-up finish at the Hong Kong Open in September, when he was defeated by China's Le Shifeng 21-15, 21-12.
