In the wake of the ongoing political tension between India and Pakistan, players from both nations avoided handshakes and exchange of pleasantries during the Asia Cup 2025 last month.

The two cricket teams came face-to-face on three occassions in the continental T20 competition in UAE and in all three games, the players avoided each other.

Even in the recently contested Women's World Cup 2025 match, players from both sides did not greet each other after the game, nor did the captains shake hands during the toss.

Pakistan also boycotted travelling to India for the tournament and are playing their matches in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Even for the Hockey Asia Cup held in Rajgir in September, the senior Pakistan national team did not travel and kept themselves away from the tournament.

Finally, the junior Hockey teams of India and Pakistan clashed in a Sultan of Johor Cup clash in Malaysia on Tuesday and there were speculations on whether the players would greet each other with a handshake before the game.
