Ayush Mhatre was signed by Chennai Super Kings in the middle of the Indian Premier League 2025 season after their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of action with an injury.
Mhatre impressed in his debut campaign in IPL, as he scored 240 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 188.98. He averaged 34.29 and his highest score was 94.
After an impressive debut season as a make-shift, Mhatre was retained by CSK ahead of the IPL 2026 mini auction.
Who is Ayush Mhatre?
Ayush Mhatre has been making a name for himself in domestic cricket. He was one of Mumbai’s top run-scorers in the Ranji Trophy. He got 471 runs across eight matches with the help of two centuries.
He also had the superb Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he finished as Mumbai’s top run-scorer. He scored 458 runs in seven matches at an impressive average of 65.42.
Despite his success in longer formats, Mhatre has yet to make his T20 debut for Mumbai. Although he has not officially joined the CSK's squad, the trial opportunity presents a chance for him to show his skills and impress the CSK management.
