The days leading up to the IPL 2026 retention deadline on November 15 saw plenty of player trades and cash deals among teams. The highlight of them being the high-profile deal between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Sanju Samson moved to CSK while RR received two players, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran, in exchange. However, there are still doubts about whether teams can continue trading players before the mini auction.

According to the rules, the trade window opens after the IPL season ends and remains open until officially closed by the BCCI, which is typically a week before the IPL Auction.

The IPL 2026 mini auction is scheduled to take place on December 16. The one-day event will be held in Abu Dhabi, where teams can bid and make key additions to their squads ahead of the 19th edition of the IPL next year.
