The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction is inching closer and new trade rumours are emerging with each passing day.
Among the latest rumours was the big news around Rohit Sharma leaving his hometown franchise, the Mumbai Indians (MI), for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a trade deal.
With KKR eyeing an Indian opener and potentially a new captain, the reports started spreading like wildfire and causing worry for MI fans.

To put an end to the chatter, MI has responded to the discussions with a cryptic social media post.
Mumbai Indians confirm Rohit Sharma stays, end KKR trade rumours with cheeky ‘Don’ post
Rohit's close friend, Abhishek Nayar, was recently named as the head coach of KKR ahead of the mini auction, increasing MI fan concern.
Additionally, Ajinkya Rahane could also play a part in persuading him to make a move.
So far, there are no words from either of the franchises about potential discussions on an all-cash or a player exchange trade.
However, using their social media channels, the Mumbai-based team cleared the air and dismissed the matter with a cryptic post.

"𝗦𝘂𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻 ye toh confirm hai, but at (K)night… मुश्किल ही नहीं, नामुमकिन है!" MI wrote.
Since joining MI in 2011, Rohit has represented them in 236 matches (the most) and scored 6149 runs, including 2 centuries and 40 fifties. He has also led them to five IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.
As things stand, it looks unlikely that he moves to KKR or any other franchise and could end his IPL career at home in Wankhede.
