Ravichandran Ashwin's retirement from the Indian Premier League has stirred emotions across the cricketing world - especially in Chennai where his journey began.

Having debuted for Chennai Super Kings in 2009, Ashwin grew into one of the most influential spinners in T20 cricket.

His decision to bow out after IPL 2025 - which also marked his return to the franchise after more than a decade, closed an important chapter in CSK's history.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad shared a heartfelt note on Instagram after Ashwin's announcement - recalling how special it was to play alongside the veteran.

The message followed CSK's own tribute on social media where the franchise celebrated Ashwin as "Chepauk's own" and hailed his mastery of the carrom ball.

Ravichandran Ashwin's final IPL season with CSK

Ashwin rejoined CSK in 2025 for ₹9.75 crore - returning to the side where he first made his mark. However, his final campaign was subdued with just nine appearances - his lowest involvement in a season since his debut year.

Addressing the speculation around his future, Ashwin explained on his YouTube channel that he had sought clarity from the franchise. He also acknowledged talk of a possible trade involving Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson but noted that such decisions often remain outside players' hands.

Despite a quieter final season, Ashwin leaves behind a decorated IPL legacy. For CSK fans, his return and final bow in yellow ensured his journey came full circle at Chepauk.
