Mumbai Indians head into the IPL 2026 mini-auction with most of their core intact, sticking to a familiar approach that has served them well over the years.

The retention window, which closed on November 15, saw the franchise keep its senior Indian group, key overseas options, and recently traded additions.

MI have focused on stability rather than sweeping changes, which keeps their squad settled but leaves them with a tighter budget for the upcoming auction.  The IPL 2026 mini-auction will take place at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16.

As per reported figures, MI will enter the mini auction with Rs. 2.75 crore, placing them among the teams with the lowest purse available. This is one of the two smallest budgets heading into the event.

  • Remaining purse: Rs. 55 lakh
  • Remaining slots: 0 (0 overseas)

The franchise parted ways with overseas players Lizaad Williams, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Bevon Jacobs, and Reece Topley, along with uncapped Indian players Vignesh Puthur and D Satyanarayana Raju — moves that free up slots but not significant money.

MI retained 17 players, including Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rohit Sharma. Their overseas core stays largely the same as well, with Trent Boult, Ryan Rickelton, and Mitch Santner continuing.

With just INR 2.75 crore to work with, MI are expected to target specific squad gaps rather than pursue marquee names. Their core group is already settled, which reduces pressure, but the auction will still demand precision and smart budgeting. The franchise will likely look for undervalued domestic options or backup overseas picks to round off the squad.
