New Zealand legend Kane Williamson, who was recently in action for the London Spirits in The Hundred Men's competition, is set to stage a return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) after missing the 2025 season.

The former captain will join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a new role and will be a key figure in taking the team forward from its disappointing 2025 season, where they finished seventh with 6 wins and 8 losses.

With Williamson's addition, LSG aim to use his experience of playing the big finals and winning tournaments to build a competitive team and lay a roadmap for the future.

The former Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans star last played in the IPL during the 2024 season. He later joined the commentary team in 2025, after being unsold in the mega auction at a base price of Rs. 2 crore.

According to RevSportz, he will now be assuming the duties as a strategic advisor at the LSG camp ahead of the upcoming season.

He will join head coach Justin Langer and bowling coach Bharat Arun after Zaheer Khan recently parted ways with the franchise.

Williamson will help the Rishabh Pant-led side in the build-up to the auction and be a core part of the planning and decision-making, considering their long-term aspirations as a franchise.
