India's young all-rounder Washington Sundar is all set for a batting promotion, as the Gujarat Titans are expected to place a significant batting reshuffle ahead of the IPL 2026.

Reports suggest that the franchise is looking to promote the all-rounder and hand him the No.4 batting role for the side in the upcoming edition of the IPL.

Earlier, some reports suggested that Sundar is in line for a potential trade to the Chennai Super Kings; however, the Gujarat Titans seem to have denied any such trade deal

Washington Sundar to bat at No.4 for the Gujarat Titans

Part of the Men in Blue across formats, Sundar has established his place in the Indian side and has been in terrific form in the past year or so, and especially is enjoying a wonderful run with the bat.

The all-rounder is averaging 40 with the bat in Test cricket in 2025, while also averaging above 30 in the shortest format. He recently played a match-winning knock of 49* against Australia in the 3rd T20I at Hobart.

Sundar is now expected to play a crucial role for his IPL franchise Gujarat Titans, where he is set to get the No.4 role, coming into bat after the likes of captain Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and the Englishman Jos Buttler.

The move will allow the Titans to use a left-right combination in the middle-overs, and with his ability to play spin well, Sundar will also play a crucial role in negotiating the spinners.

GT trade rumours ahead of IPL 2026 mini-auction

There has been plenty of noise in the trade window involving the Gujarat Titans. Reports claim that Chennai Super Kings showed strong interest in Sundar, hoping to bring the Tamil Nadu all-rounder back home.

However, GT has reportedly declined multiple offers from CSK, including a player swap and even an all-cash deal. For now, Sundar remains an important part of Gujarat’s setup.
