India's young all-rounder Washington Sundar is all set for a batting promotion, as the Gujarat Titans are expected to place a significant batting reshuffle ahead of the IPL 2026. 

The franchise is reportedly aiming to elevate the all-rounder, assigning him the No.4 batting position for the team in the forthcoming IPL season.

Recent accounts indicated Sundar might be traded to the Chennai Super Kings, but the Gujarat Titans appear to have refuted any such transaction.

Gujarat Titans will have Washington Sundar batting at the fourth position.

Part of the Men in Blue across formats, Sundar has established his place in the Indian side and has been in terrific form in the past year or so, and especially is enjoying a wonderful run with the bat. 

This versatile player is scoring 40 runs per Test match in 2025, and also achieving over 30 runs per game in T20s. He recently delivered a match-deciding innings of 49 not out versus Australia in the third T20 International at Hobart.

Gujarat Titans anticipates Sundar will assume a vital position for their IPL team, batting at number four, following established players like captain Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and England's Jos Buttler. 

This strategic shift enables the Titans to deploy a left-right batting pairing during the middle overs, and Sundar's proficiency against spin bowling positions him to be instrumental in countering the opposition's spinners. 

GT trade rumors leading up to the IPL 2026 mini-auction

The Gujarat Titans have been quite active in the trade window. Reports suggest that Chennai Super Kings expressed significant interest in Sundar, aiming to reacquire the Tamil Nadu all-rounder.

However, GT has reportedly declined multiple offers from CSK, including a player swap and even an all-cash deal. For now, Sundar remains an important part of Gujarat’s setup.
