India captain Suryakumar Yadav who is one of the key figures in the Mumbai Indians’ history, having contributed to multiple Indian Premier League title wins since joining them in 2018.

Despite playing for MI in recent years, the batter first made his mark in the league at Kolkata Knight Riders, batting lower down the order and also winning the 2014 season with them.

However, when it was time for another mega auction in 2018, the Knight Riders decided to release Yadav into the auction and only retained Sunil Narine and Andre Russell.

In his latest interview, the Indian skipper made a cheeky comment and spoke about his return to MI.

Ahead of IPL 2018, the explosive batter had already represented MI once in the IPL and twice in the Champions League T20 between 2011 and 2013. Having picked him earlier as well, MI didn’t take long to raise the paddle when his name came up in the auction. They secured him for ₹30 lakh.

While there was a bidding war between them and KKR in the auction room, he ended up at MI at ₹3.20 crores and became an integral part of their team.

While speaking to a journalist during his interview with Sports Now Times, upon being told about KKR fan sentiment when he left the franchise, the Indian T20I captain reminded everyone of the 2018 release.

"I went to KKR [in 2014], I heard it's your favourite team," said Surya before the journalist told him about being heartbroken upon his departure, "I didn't leave them, they left me," he added.

How did Suryakumar Yadav perform for KKR?

In his four season stint with the Knight Riders from 2014 to 2017, Suryakumar played 60 matches and scored 684 runs at a strike rate of 135.71, including a fifty to his name.
