Over the years, the Mumbai Indians have managed to keep their core group of superstar players intact, which has helped them become the joint-most successful franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
They have also featured T20 superstars like Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Lasith Malinga, players who could walk into any team in the world but still played together without ego.
Several players on different occasions have spoken highly of the positive environment in the MI dressing room and called it one of the biggest reasons for their success.

India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is the latest big name to praise their team culture, as he revealed why big stars stay in MI.

Since returning to the franchise in 2018, Yadav has been a key figure in the MI playing XI for over seven seasons now.
Having scored 3703 runs in 111 matches since returning, he is the top-scorer of the franchise in this period. As a reward to his consistency, he also earned his first national call-up as an MI player, subsequently becoming the captain.
Speaking to Express Sports, Yadav spoke about the family-like environment in the MI dressing room and credited the management for keeping the strong core intact for years.

"We feel like a family in the dressing room, in the hotel, training or the dressing room. All the players are capable of leading any team in the world, but there is some feeling over there. You can only feel that being with that team. It makes you ready for bigger occasions, helps you when things don’t go your way," said Yadav.
After Yadav's comeback to MI, the franchise has won two IPL titles in 2019 and 2020 and made it to two more playoffs.
He has also been their top-scorer in 2018, 2023 and 2025, with 512, 605 and 717 runs, respectively. Additionally, he has also captained them twice so far, with a win and a loss to his name.
