West Ham United were on the receiving end of a 3-2 loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the second round of the EFL Cup on August 26, at Molineux Stadium.

After Wolves opened their scoring with Rodrigo Gomes' goal minutes before the end of the first half, Tomas Soucek found West Ham’s equalizer in the 50th minute. Lucas Paqueta netted the lead for the visitors in the 63rd minute.

Wolves' victory came with Jorgen Strand Larsen scoring a brace in a span of two minutes after coming off the bench in the 73rd minute.

Following the final whistle, West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen, along with other players of the squad, were on the pitch, acknowledging their supporters when the 28-year-old was seen pointing into the crowd at one fan, who seemed to be shouting in his direction.

Bowen then attempted to climb over the advertising boards to confront the fan before being dragged back by his teammates, who prevented the situation from escalating further. The Englishman then took off his captain’s armband and walked down the tunnel with his head bowed.

After West Ham's run in the EFL Cup this season came to an end, Bowen took to social media and apologized for his post-match conduct on the pitch.

"Apologies to the fans for tonight's reaction. I’m someone who is passionate and will fight every time I step on the pitch. But I need to set a better example. You fans know how much I love you and this club. We ride through he bad times together, and I'll see you all Sunday."

What did West Ham boss say about Jarrod Bowen’s outburst?

West Ham are yet to secure their first victory of the 2025/26 campaign. While speaking in the post-match press conference, head coach Graham Potter extended support towards Bowen, referring to the incident as ‘an exchange of views by people who care.’

"Our supporters have been fantastic. They are hurting because of the results we have had and Jarrod obviously cares about the club and the team. He gave everything again and it was just an exchange of views by people who care," as per GOAL.

"The most important relationship at a club is between the fans and the team. We need our fans and everyone to stick together. The team is suffering at the moment. We are all hurting, I can assure you no-one is celebrating or happy about what we're doing. We're all in pain."

West Ham will be looking to bag a win in their next Premier League game against Nottingham Forest on August 31, at City Ground.
