Tottenham completes transfer deal for Chelsea hijack as Xavi Simons signs new contract image

Tottenham Hotspur are moving fast to secure Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in what could be one of the standout transfers of the summer.

The Dutch star has reportedly completed his medical in north London after the clubs agreed a fee of around €60 million (£52m/$70m), as reported by David Ornstein.

Personal terms are in place, with only the final exit details from Leipzig left to settle.

Simons’ arrival comes at a key moment. Spurs lost James Maddison to a long-term knee injury and have already seen targets Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze slip away.

All documents are now completed between Spurs and RB Leipzig with Xavi signing his new Tottenham contract until 2030 + 2 year option, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea were also circling, but Tottenham acted swiftly to avoid another tug-of-war with their London rivals.

Tottenham avoid nightmare repeat of 2013 saga

Willian Chelsea 25102017

Supporters will remember the infamous Willian saga, when the Brazilian completed a Spurs medical before signing for Chelsea in 2013.

Tottenham seem determined not to see history repeat itself. Reports suggest they raced ahead once Chelsea showed interest, pushing the deal over the line before Stamford Bridge could strike.

Thomas Frank, who has made a solid start as Spurs boss, wanted more firepower in attack. Simons, who can play as a No.10 or wide forward, appears the perfect fit.

The 22-year-old produced 10 goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga last season and already has nearly 30 caps for the Netherlands.

The former La Masia prospect has taken quite the European tour, with stops at PSG, PSV, and Leipzig.

Now he looks set to add Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to his list of homes. If registered in time, Simons could even make his debut this weekend against Bournemouth.

For Spurs, who have been chasing creativity since Maddison’s setback, this deal feels like a lifeline. For fans, it’s a reminder that sometimes the best defense against Chelsea is a good offense.
