Tottenham Hotspur are off to a decent start in the new Premier League campaign with three wins from the first five games and a solitary draw.

The players have settled quickly to new manager Thomas Frank's ideas, and they are looking like a different team in comparison to last season when they finished 17th in the points table.

Spurs also kick-started their Champions League campaign with a 1-0 win over Villarreal and their only defeat this season came at the hands of Bournemouth that too in a closely fought fixture.

The Lilywhites managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Brighton on Saturday at the Amex Stadium despite going down by 2-0 in the first 31 minutes of the game.

Despite the positive start and Richarlison scoring goals for Spurs, Frank is reportedly desperate to sign another attacker in the January transfer winter especially after they failed to land Savinho from Man City.

As per Football Insider's reports, Tottenham are eyeing a move for Sevilla winger Ruben Vargas, who has emerged as one of the prominent names to strengthen their wide areas.

Spurs have great options in the wide areas with players like Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, Brennan Johnson,Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel, who can also play on the flanks.

So, a move for Vargas in January is unlikely as per reports but he is high on Frank's priority list and given Tottenham hierarchy's trust on the manager, a move is not completely out of question.

Who is Tottenham target Ruben Vargas?

Vargas moved to Sevilla in January 2025 from Bundesliga outfit Augsburg for just €2.5m ($2.9m) and has given decent returns.

The Swiss international struggled with an ankle injury in the last term but he has fully recovered now and has already raked up a goal and three assists from four La Liga games for Sevilla this season.

Overall, Vargas has netted three goals and four assists in 15 appearances for Sevilla, becoming a crucial member of Matias Almeyda's squad.

Apart from featuring in wide areas, Vargas is also capable of slotting in as a number 10 which makes him a versatile player.

The 27-year-old is highly experienced as he has appeared 54 times for Switzerland, featuring in all the recent top events including the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2024 Euros.

He will also be a much cheaper alternative to Savinho, who is valued in excess of £65m by Manchester City and therefore could be a great depth option for Spurs.

So, it remains to be seen if Frank decides to trust the players available to him for the entirety of the 2025/26 season or opts to sign Vargas in the January transfer window.
