Bayern Munich’s delay in resolving Dayot Upamecano’s future has opened a door for Real Madrid to weigh their options for the French defender.

Konate, who joined Bayern Munich from RB Leipzig in July 2021 for €42.5m [$49.5m] is in his final year of contract with talks over an extension beyond June 2026 continuing but without no final agreement.

The 26-year-old defender is one of the important piece at Allianz Arena and has made 161 appearances, scoring five goals for the Bavarian club.

His situation has worried the club hierarchy who has seen a series of stars depart Bavaria without compensation and the club fear repeating that pattern, according to the Marca.

The defender has reportedly been presented to Real Madrid and his name continues to surface in connection with the club.

Madrid’s scouts are also reportedly tracking Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate whose contract also runs out in 2026 and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi who also enters his final year at Selhurst Park.

Konate is reportedly yet to sign a new deal with Liverpool and Real Madrid are exploring the possibility of signing him on a free transfer next year and that move could resemble the situation involving Trent Alexander Arnold left Anfield this summer for Santiago Bernabeu.

Marc Guehi faces a similar situation at Crystal Palace after failing to agree on new terms. The Selhurst Park defender was close to joining Liverpool but the move collapsed as Palace could not find a replacement before the deadline day.
