For the first time since 1982, the FIFA World Cup has a Group L.
As part of the tournament’s expanded format — now featuring 48 teams — there are 12 groups of four, with matches taking place across the United States, Mexico and Canada. Though L might be the final letter for the round-robin groups, it’s sure to feature high-profile matchups involving some of the world’s best teams.

World Cup Group L odds and predictions

World Cup 2026 bracket for Group L
The Group L winner will be placed in the top half of the knockout bracket. Their opponent in the Round of 32 is currently slated to be the runner-up of Group I.
The Group L runner-up will enter the bottom half of the bracket. They are scheduled to meet the winner of Group I in the Round of 32.
If the Group L third-place finisher is one of the eight teams that qualify for the Round of 32 (from the 12 groups), their opponent is determined by the specific combination of the eight qualifying third-place teams.
A Group L third-place qualifier could end up facing one of the following winners:
- Winner of Group D
- Winner of Group F
- Winner of Group J
Until all third-place qualifiers are known, it is impossible to know where or when they could potentially play upon qualification. There are 495 mathematical combinations of third place qualifiers, all of which have been spelled out in advance. Every potential outcome can be found in Annex C (pg. 80) of the 2026 FIFA World Cup regulations.
