The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup gets underway this weekend with a headline clash as Egypt's Al Ahly face off against MLS giants Inter Miami in the tournament opener.

Al Ahly arrive in red-hot form, unbeaten in their last seven outings and riding the momentum of six consecutive victories. The reigning African champions will look to keep that streak alive as they take the stage on the global front.

Inter Miami, meanwhile, have bounced back impressively from a rough patch of four matches without a win. Their resurgence includes two emphatic victories, in which they found the back of the net nine times. With the tournament being held on familiar Florida soil, the Herons will hope to capitalise on their home comforts.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch the match, kickoff times and the latest lineup news.

Al Ahly vs. Inter Miami predicted lineups, team news

Tactically, Al Ahly boss Jose Riveiro is set to deploy a 4-2-3-1 formation, though he'll have to make do without Mohamed Abdallah, Reda Slim, and Samir Maohamed, all sidelined through injury.

Al Ahly have been acclimatising to American conditions for more than a week now, using their time stateside to gear up for the Club World Cup opener. As part of their preparations, the Cairo-based club faced Mexican outfit Pachuca in a tune-up match on Sunday. The contest ended 1-1 in regulation time, but the Egyptian side came up short in the shootout, falling 5-3 on penalties.

Al Ahly predicted XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): El Shenawy — Hany, Rabia, Ibrahim, Debes — El Solia, Ashour, Ateya — Mohamed, Trezeguet — Abou Ali.

Injured: Mohamed Abdallah (muscle), Reda Slim (knee), Samir Mohamed (muscle).
Suspended: None.

Inter Miami manager Javier Mascherano is facing a more extensive injury list, missing six players heading into the match.

Youngster Noah Allen is expected to fill in at left-back for the injured Jordi Alba, while Benjamin Cremaschi is likely to step into midfield alongside Sergio Busquets, with Yannick Bright unavailable.

Up front, Mascherano is tipped to field a classic 4-4-2, pairing stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez in attack. Messi will look to carry his form from MLS into the Club World Cup, with the Argentine forward providing 10 goals and five assists.

Inter Miami predicted XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Ustari — Weigandt, Falcon, Lujan, Allen — Allende, Cremaschi, Busquets, Segovia — Messi, Suarez.

Injured: Baltasar Rodriguez (hamstring), David Ruiz (hamstring), Drake Callender (hernia), Gonzalo Lujan (hamstring), Jordi Alba (hamstring), Yannick Bright (hamstring).
