Bayern Munich bagged a 3-1 win against Chelsea in their first Champions League match of the season on September 17 at Allianz Arena.

Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah netted an own goal, handing Bayern a lead in the 20th minute. The Bundesliga side were then awarded a penalty for Moises Caicedo's tackle on Harry Kane in the penalty area.

Kane successfully converted the penalty, doubling Bayern's lead in the 27th minute. Cole Palmer netted Chelsea's sole goal of the match from an assist by Malo Gusto in the 29th minute.

The English national team captain found the back of the net again for Bayern after being set up by Serge Gnabry in the 63rd minute.

Bayern's win against Chelsea also marked to be goalkeeper Manuel Neuer's 100th Champions League victory. While speaking after the match, the 39-year-old star addressed this milestone and said,

"It's a nice number. But it's much more important to have won these victories with the team. We celebrate together," as per GOAL.

Neuer also heaped praise on his side's display against Chelsea, referring to the win as a 'crowning achievement.'

What did Manuel Neuer say about Bayern Munich's Champions League win over Chelsea?

Neuer candidly claimed that Bayern 'were simply cooler with the ball' against Chelsea, and added,

"When you're a Bayern Munich player, you always want to win. For us, the greatest thing is to play in the Champions League and win it. That's why it's always a distant goal. You have to try to do your homework. The game against Chelsea isn't homework, but rather a crowning achievement, the way we played today. We crushed them here at home. But in the new league format, we're first playing to get into the top eight. Then you want to progress in the knockout rounds toward the final."

"You're playing against a Premier League team, against a team that, in some ways, played similarly to Augsburg in the second half away from home. These are examples from the Bundesliga that you can then translate to the Champions League. We showed there that we also have to fight. That was an important factor today. Nevertheless, we were also the better team in terms of playing skills. We were simply cooler with the ball."

Now, after the Champions League clash, both sides will be turning their focus to their respective league games this Saturday. Bayern are pitted against Hoffenheim at PreZero Arena, while Chelsea will be making the trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.
