Manchester United endured a horror-show of a season in 2023/24 as they finished eighth in the Premier League, but that has paled in comparison to their current campaign, which has charted new depths.
Last season's boss Erik ten Hag managed to keep his job thanks to an FA Cup title, but that only delayed the inevitable as he was eventually replaced in November by Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese boss has failed to turn things around in the months since his appointment, and a deep run in the Europa League ultimately fell short of providing a respite, as they were beaten for the first time in continental play in the final by fellow Premier League side Tottenham, leaving them out of Europe entirely next season.
Given the squad was ravaged by injuries and there was uncertainty behind the scenes as INEOS took over sporting control at Old Trafford, it was anticipated that things would improve in 2024/25. It certainly wasn't expected that they would get even worse.
Yet that is exactly what has happened, and Amorim was left facing unwanted records.

Manchester United Premier League lows
Points
United's worst points return in the Premier League era was 58, which they posted in 2021/22, the season before Erik ten Hag became manager. The previous lowest points total in a season was the 64 points in 2013/14 under David Moyes.
They finished the 2023/24 campaign on 60 points, not quite the lowest but certainly nothing to be proud of, and 2024/25 is now confirmed to be far worse.
A final day win over Aston Villa edged them up to 42 points, confirming the precise level of a new low.
Worst Finish
Moyes took United to their lowest finish in the table in the Premier League era in that 2013/14 season, when the reigning champions ended up seventh.
Ten Hag, despite a win on the final day, managed to beat Moyes' record and set a new worst-ever league finish since it became the Premier League as they came eighth.
Again, this low was blown out of the water as the 2-0 victory against Villa took them to 15th position.
Goals Scored
United's all-time season-low figure of 49 goals scored was at risk of being broken in 2023/24, but they finished strongly in that regard, with five goals in their last two games to finish on 57 goals scored.
Once again, new depths were found, as Chrstian Eriksen's penalty to conclude United's 2024/25 work took them to a meagre 44 goals.
Goals Conceded
Ten Hag's team conceded 58 in 2023/24, breaking the previous record set in 2021/22.
That number felt somewhat safe for a while, having leaked just 46 goals with five games to go, but a 4-3 defeat to Brentford plus a 2-0 loss to West Ham meant they were down to 54. A final day clean sheet at least averted another unwanted record.
Fewest wins
The Red Devils set a new low for wins in a Premier League season in 2021/22, with 16 victories. Ten Hag managed to win 18 games in 2023/24, with back-to-back victories to close the season.
This mark has long been assured to be reset, with the Villa win standing as victory 11 in 2024/25.
Most Losses
United's biggest number of defeats in a single Premier League season was previously 12. Their humiliating loss at Crystal Palace on May 6, 2024 saw them set a new worst tally of 13, and a 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal took them to 14 for the season.
They have blown past this number and the 18th and final loss of the season came at Chelsea in their last away match
