Man United vs. Sunderland lineups: Predicted starting XI, team news, injury latest as Amad Diallo returns image

Manchester United host Sunderland at Old Trafford in their next Premier League match on October 4.

Following a disappointing 3-1 loss against Brentford last week, the Red Devils stand 14th in the top flight with seven points after two wins, one draw, and three defeats. The pressure is building on head coach Ruben Amorim, who has failed to manage consecutive league wins in his whole time in charge.

Sunderland, meanwhile, have made a good start to the campaign, sitting fifth in the Premier League table with 11 points from six matches. After being eliminated from the second round of the Carabao Cup, the promoted club has maintained a four-match undefeated streak.

United have a good record in league games against Sunderland at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils bagging 13 victories in 16 such matches.

Man United will have Amad Diallo available again after he missed the Brentford game due to a family bereavement. He will be keen to face the club where he enjoyed a productive loan spell in 2022/23.

Casemiro also returns from his one-match suspension for receiving two yellow cards in United's league match against Chelsea on September 20. Goalkeeper Senne Lammens could be handed a debut.

Defenders Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui remain out due to respective injuries.

United's struggles have brought questions and criticism about head coach Amorim and his management, making the upcoming clash a must-win for the Portuguese manager to quash the speculation over his future.

Man United predicted starting XI (3-4-2-1, right to left): Lammens (GK) — Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw — Amad Diallo, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu — Mbeumo, Cunha — Sesko

Injured: Martinez (knee), Mazraoui (thigh)
Suspended: None

Sunderland will be missing defenders Dennis Cirkin and Leo Hjelde due to their injury, while Aji Alese is facing another month out after a small setback in his recovery.

Habib Diarra, who suffered a groin injury, and Romaine Mundle, who is nursing a hamstring injury, are also sidelined for the clash against United.

Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris will also be without left back Reinildo Mandava, who will be serving the second of a three-game suspension on Saturday, but Nordi Mukiele is fit to play.

Sunderland predicted starting XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Roefs (GK) — Mukiele, Geertruida, Alderete, Masuaku — Xhaka, Sadiki — Traore, Talbi, Adingra — Isidor
