Following on from 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification taking centre stage in the October international break, Manchester City get back to Premier League action with the visit of Everton.

Manchester City are the side they once were but have begun to find some rhythm as Pep Guardiola’s side try and build on some good form before the break.

Everton have also started this season well - particularly at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. They beat Brighton 2-0 and came from behind to defeat Crystal Palace a couple of weeks ago courtesy of a late winner scored by City loanee and England World Cup squad hopeful Jack Grealish.

The Sporting News brings you the latest tips and odds for this weekend as David Moyes’ Everton travel across to east Manchester to face the Cityzens at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City vs. Everton: Who Will Win?

Manchester City, as mentioned, often fall short of the levels they reached a few years ago. A large element of that is simply a lack of overall cohesion and fluency in attack with Pep Guardiola focusing on becoming more pragmatic.

That could lead to a stifled performance from the hosts against an Everton side that will likely try and play a very deep block that sets out to immensely frustrate an often passive City side.

City, with the excellent in-form Erling Haaland up top, should absolutely still have enough to come out on top this weekend but it is unlikely to be overly thrilling for the neutral.

  • The most recent meeting between these two sides saw Manchester City eventually comfortably win 2-0 at Goodison Park in April.

Man City vs. Everton Score Prediction

The expectation for this match is that City do eventually struggle to a victory at the Etihad Stadium without too much fluency or attacking thrill against what will likely be a stubborn Everton side who would value a point as a victory in Manchester.

Man City vs. Everton Team News

Man City Team News

  • Manchester City have often chopped and changed throughout the Pep Guardiola era but the Catalan has stumbled upon a more consistent 4-1-4-1 selection in the last 12 months or so.
  • City will be without last year's Ballon d’Or winner Rodri due to injury and that should mean Nico Gonzalez comes into the side in defensive midfield.
  • The form of both Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku has been particularly exciting in behind the irrepressible Haaland up-front.

Everton Team News

  • The biggest and most notable issue for David Moyes to deal with is the absence of Jack Grealish, who is missing for the Evertonians as he is ineligible to face his parent club.
  • With the absence of Grealish, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Moyes switch from a 4-2-3-1 system to a back three, which he has deployed quite a lot in his career in the past.
  • The visitors are dealing with a few other injury concerns as the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite, Michael Keane and Merlin Rohl remain doubts.

Betting Tips: Man City vs. Everton

  • Best bet: Total Goals under 3.5 (1.55 with Dafabet
  • Alternative bet: Erling Haaland to score anytime (2.16 with Dafabet)

Pep Guardiola has rarely struggled against David Moyes-led sides in the past, and that trend doesn't look set to change here. That said, Manchester City aren't quite the relentless force they once were, their biggest obstacle these days often seems to be themselves.

A comfy, somewhat scrappy win still feels the most likely outcome, with West Ham expected to dig in and make life difficult for the hosts. City will also take comfort in knowing that Erling Haaland returns fresh after being released early from international duty with Norway, giving him valuable rest ahead of a packed fixture list.

The Norwegian powerhouse has been in blistering form this season, racking up 21 goals in just 12 appearances across all competitions. He's bagged multiple goals in three Premier League games so far, failing to score only once, against Tottenham.
