Former Leeds United and Major League Soccer star Mateusz Klich has candidly admitted that he would not recommend players to currently join Inter Miami because of Lionel Messi.
Following his two-season stint at Paris Saint-Germain, Messi joined David Beckham-co-owned Inter Miami in July 2023. The Argentine icon has since made and broken several records in the league, further extending his profound impact in the game.
Klich, however, shared the opinion that Messi and his father have too much influence at Inter Miami, which has made it a 'disaster' for players and coaching staff.
The 35-year-old Polish midfielder has played for MLS clubs D.C. United and Atlanta United, respectively, before returning to his boyhood club Cracovia last month.
What did Mateusz Klich say about Lionel Messi's influence at Inter Miami?
Klich went so far as to say that Messi's father 'basically runs the club,' claiming that nothing at Inter Miami can be done 'without their consent,' and told Foot Truck,
"I don't recommend Miami as long as Messi is there. It's a disaster; people are leaving, coaches and physiotherapists are leaving. Organisationally, it's bad. Messi's dad basically runs the club. Everyone speaks Spanish, and nothing can be done without their consent. The club itself is also 45-50 minutes from Miami," as per GOAL.

"I would recommend New York. Red Bull has a better stadium now, but City is also building a cracking stadium. There are clubs like Columbus Crew and Cincinnati, which have great stadiums and a great base, but the place to live is very boring. I would recommend Nashville, if you have an option to go to Nashville SC. It's a beautiful place. Portland and Seattle have atmosphere, but it's the end of the world."
Messi's contract at Inter Miami is set to expire at the end of this year, with reports suggesting an extension will be signed soon. The Herons are pitted against New York City FC in their next MLS clash on September 24 at Citi Field.
