After initially promising starts for some of the European heavyweights, the expanded FIFA Club World Cup started to veer entertainingly off-script during the group stages.

Freshly crowned UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain swaggered into the tournament with a 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid in Pasadena, but Luis Enrique's team were cut down to size as Copa Libertadores champions Botafogo ground out a stirring 1-0 win back at the Rose Bowl.

There was further Brazilian success at UEFA expense as Flamengo recovered from behind to beat Chelsea 3-1 in Philadelphia. This result came after 15-time European champions Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

So, what does it all mean for the qualification shake-up? Find our full breakdown of results and standings here, while below we will list the teams that reach the Round of 16 once they confirm their spots.

Which teams have qualified for Club World Cup Round of 16?

The top two teams from each of the eight four-team groups will qualify for the Round of 16.

This follows the familiar template from the UEFA Champions League before Europe's top competition switched to the so-called Swiss model from last season.

Teams that win their group will face the runner-up from another section in the first knockout phase, theoretically giving them an advantage in their bid to reach the quarterfinals.
