Bayern Munich are off to a phenomenal start to the 2025/26 season as they are yet to drop points in their first 10 competitive games.

In terms of attack, they look like a well-oiled system with the likes of Harry Kane being the primary driving force and the players like Michael Olise and Luis Diaz showing support. Even Serge Gnabry has also notched up great numbers this season.

While attack has been their area of strength, Bayern Munich's defense still has areas to improve as they conceded eight goals.

Dayot Upamecano has been the sole consistent player for the Bavarians and with his contract extension talks taking time to resolve, Bayern are already looking for alternatives in the market.

According to Sky Sports' Florian Plettenberg, the German champions have entered the race to sign Crystal Palace star defender Marc Guehi, who will be available for free next summer.

There are reports suggesting that he could be an alternative to Upamecano if he doesn't sign a new contract with Bayern Munich.

However, securing Guehi won't be easy as clubs like Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, etc. are also in the market looking to sign the England international next summer.

Bayern chief Max Eberl is a big admirer of the English defender and reportedly he has approached Guehi's management and expressed their interest.

Even if Upamecano decides to stay, Bayern could make a move for Guehi depending on Kim Min-jae's future. The Bavarians may offload the South Korean to make room for the 25-year-old next summer.

Why are Bayern Munich chasing Marc Guehi?

Guehi has been easily one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League over the last couple of years and therefore Palace manager Oliver Glasner blocked his deadline day move to Liverpool as they didn't have any alternative.

The 25-year-old is Palace's club captain and played a massive role in their FA Cup win last season and also delivered a sensational performance against Liverpool in winning the FA Community Shield earlier this season.

With his consistent performances for Palace, he also became a mainstay in defense for England national team and gradually become a leader at the back for the Three Lions ahead of the World Cup next year.

Overall, Bayern Munich are after him because he brings a lot of quality to their backline and also fits really well in Kompany's style of play.

Guehi is excellent as a ball carrier, has great passing range, press resistant and brings physicality and is also dominant in aerial duels.

The 25-year-old is extremely adaptable and can fit in any formation with aplomb plus he is extremely crucial for Palace in their ball progression which also benefit any club that he chooses to join next summer.

He is easily one of the best centre-backs in Europe right now and considering he is available on a free transfer next summer, clubs are circling around him for his signature.

Bayern Munich would ideally want to pair Guehi with Upamecano as their primary defensive pairing for next season.
