Arsenal destroyed Tottenham in the north London derby as Eberechi Eze hit a hat-trick in a 4-1 rout of Thomas Frank's team at Emirates Stadium.

With Liverpool and Manchester City both suffering defeats on Saturday, the Gunners knew they would move six points clear of second-place Chelsea in the standings should they beat their fierce rivals. The manner in which they dispatched Spurs was a brutal reminder that the title race is firmly in their hands as we head into the busy December schedule.

The hero was Eze, who struck three times for the club he supported as a boy against the team he almost joined in the summer, but Arsenal's performance level was exceptional from front to back. This was in stark contrast to Spurs, who were limp and lifeless, mustering only three shots throughout.

Leandro Trossard broke the deadlock after a poor opening half-hour of the game, the winger firing in a shot that deflected off the boot of Micky van de Ven after being picked out by Mikel Merino. Eze then blasted in Arsenal's second just before halftime, and when he found the bottom corner with a stylish left-foot finish less than a minute after the restart, any Spurs hopes of a comeback evaporated.

Richarlison scored a spectacular 40-yard chip to shake Arsenal briefly, but Eze completed his treble with another composed finish to restore a three-goal advantage that the Gunners fully deserved. Spurs were dreadful, but this was a statement showing from Mikel Arteta's team.

90 mins: Arsenal players are getting the "ole" treatment with every pass. This has become a humiliation for Spurs.

86 mins: The away section at the Emirates emptied shortly after Eze's third goal. Spurs are rather going through the motions now. Arsenal are heading for a six-point lead at the top.

76 mins: GOAL! EZE HAS A HAT-TRICK! Spurs are all over the place as Trossard breaks forward and squares it to the goal-scorer, who steadies himself before firing low past Vicario. The boyhood Gunner has a derby-day treble!

72 mins: Saka turns and curls a shot towards the far post, but Vicario is equal to it. Arsenal look like they've come through that brief unsteady patch.

66 mins: Randal Kolo Muani and Pape Sarr are on for Spurs, who have dominated the ball for the past 10 minutes. That Richarlison goal really has changed the mood here.

55 mins: GOAL! WHAT A FINISH FROM RICHARLISON! Palhinha charges from midfield and makes a great tackle on Zubimendi. Richarlison spots David Raya off his line and hits a sublime chip from 40 yards out that nestles in the back of the net. That's an extraordinary goal, and it's left the Emirates shell-shocked.

46 mins: GOAL! EZE AGAIN! Less than 40 seconds into the second half, Eze collects Timber's pass just inside the box and picks out the bottom-left corner. Frank's attacking change at the break may well have been rendered pointless.

There's a change at the break for Spurs, with Xavi Simons coming on for Danso.

Halftime

Arsenal take a comfortable lead into the break. Spurs end the half with 28 per cent of possession, 14 passes in the opposition half, and not a single shot.

41 mins: GOAL! EZE MAKES IT TWO! Danso's headed clearance is picked up Rice, who plays it to Eze on the edge of the box. He gets through two Spurs challenges far too easily, and his low shot takes a little deflection before flying beneath Vicario, who got a hand to the ball but couldn't keep it out. On the balance of play, it's a full deserved lead for the Gunners, and it's hard to see Spurs coming back from this.

36 mins: GOAL! TROSSARD SCORES FOR ARSENAL! Merino's delightful pass over the top picks out the run of the Belgian, who was played onside by Udogie. He controls the ball and shoots low while turning, and it takes a big deflection off Van de Ven before finding the bottom corner.

34 mins: Saka wins a free-kick very near to the spot from which he nearly hit the top corner. He goes for the same target, and Vicario has to get across to parry the ball away.

30 mins: Jurrien Timber looks like he might be through on goal, but Van de Ven gets across and shepherds the ball back to Vicario.

The tifo remains the most interesting thing that's happened today.

20 mins: Spurs' tactic, whenever they win a free-kick near halfway, is to send everyone forward and have Vicario send the ball into the penalty area. It's not really worked so far, but it's helping to slow the game down and give Arsenal's defence something to think about.

19 mins: Bukayo Saka whips a free-kick towards the top corner from a tight angle, and it brushes the outside of the net on its way over. I think a handful of fans thought that had gone in. It's about as close as we've come to any sort of goalmouth action since Vicario's early save.

13 mins: Leandro Trossard's got a problem here. He was just caught on the ankle by Joao Palhinha, and he needed a few minutes of treatment. It looks like he'll continue for now, but Noni Madueke is warming up.

10 mins: There's not much to speak of by way of chances since that Rice effort. Arsenal are having most of the ball, but Spurs' shape is very good.

3 mins: Terrific save from Guglielmo Vicario! Ebere Eze plays a lovely flicked pass over the Spurs defence, Declan Rice volleys it goalwards, but it's straight at the keeper, who does well to make the block. Kevin Danso then nudges the ball out for a corner, which comes to nothing.

1 hour 15 mins before kickoff:  The team news is in! Arteta has gone with Piero Hincapie as the replacement in defence for the injured Gabriel. Mikel Merino retains his place as the centre-forward in the absence of Viktor Gyokeres. There's also good news for the Gunners on the bench, with both Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli back after injury.

Interestingly, it looks like Spurs are going with a back three of Cristian Romero, Kevin Danso and Micky van de Ven. Mohammed Kudus is back in the starting lineup and looks to be flanking Richarlison in attack, with Wilson Odobert on the other wing.

Gabriel suffered a thigh injury during Brazil's win over Senegal at Emirates Stadium and misses out here, with Piero Hincapie partnering William Saliba at centre-back.

Riccardo Calafiori was passed fit to start despite an injury concern, while Mikel Merino retained his place in attack in the absence of Viktor Gyokeres, who remains unavailable due to the injury he sustained at Burnley.

Gabriel Martinelli and Noni Madueke returned from injury to make the bench in a further boost to Arteta as we approach the busy December schedule.
