Newcastle United non-negotiable summer stance against Man City approach now revealed image

Manchester City tried to strengthen their defense during the summer transfer window by targeting Newcastle United fullback Tino Livramento.

City have been struggling in full-back position since Joao Cancelo’s departure created a long-term gap and Kyle Walker also left for Burnley this summer after spending last season on loan with AC Milan.

The England international had impressed Pep Guardiola’s scouts after consistent top-level performances since his arrival at St James’ Park in 2023.

Reportedly, discussions took place between officials from both clubs as City sought solutions in the right-back position after recent departures.

Newcastle United held their stance firmly and refused to sanction any move, insisting that Livramento remained central to Eddie Howe’s system.

Livramento wasn’t the only Newcastle United player on Man City radar

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey revealed that Manchester City asked Newcastle United about another player, which was immediately rejected.

“Bruno’s name also came up in the Livramento discussions,” Bailey said [via Geordie Boot Boys].

“That is from the Manchester City side, asking about a player who they have loved and admired ever since he arrived in England.”

“It’s not a huge shock. It was short-lived and no official talks took place. But City did ask the question, before they bought Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan.”

Why Bruno Guimaraes remains untouchable?

Bruno Guimaraes has become one of the most influential player for the Tyneside since joining the club from Lyon in January 2022.

He has scored  23 goals and provided 24 assists for the Magpies in the 159 appearances across all competitions [as of September 23].

His leadership qualities and relentless pressing have helped establish him as Eddie Howe’s creative anchor in Premier League battles.

The Brazilian also holds the club record for consecutive Premier League starts with 69 appearances as an outfield player.

During the current campaign he has recorded 83.2 percent passing accuracy along with creating three chances in league matches.

Guimaraes has also won four tackles and prevailed in 22 duels which shows his defensive and transitional impact for Newcastle.
