Manchester United suffered a crushing 3-1 defeat against Brentford in their last Premier League match on September 27 at Gtech Community Stadium.

With that draw, Man United currently rank 14th in the top flight with only seven points after two wins in six league games.

The Red Devils' persistent struggles under head coach Ruben Amorim have brought heavy criticism, along with questions about the 40-year-old's system.

The result against Brentford also saw Man United legends Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney voice their critical opinions on Amorim's management.

Since taking charge in November 2024, Amorim has led his squad to earn 34 points from their 33 league games. Despite the criticism about his 3-4-3 system and lack of consistent results with the formation, the Portuguese manager has publicly mentioned that he is not yet convinced to make changes to that.

When asked to share his take on the criticism during a press conference ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash, Amorim referred to that as 'normal,' while defending that Man United's on-pitch struggles have 'nothing to do with the system.'

"It is normal and you cannot run away from the results and then you have baggage from last season but for me last season doesn't matter. We had six games this season and we lost three. We have to look to the games we lost, if we lost against Arsenal due to the system, it is your job to make the opinions," as per GOAL.

"City and Brentford the way we gave away goals and created chances, it is nothing to do with the system. If we look to the games we didn't win, people have different opinions and that is okay."

Man United are set to host Sunderland at Old Trafford in their next league clash on October 4.

What did Ruben Amorim say about Man United's match against Sunderland?

Sunderland have made a good start to the campaign, ranking fifth in the Premier League table with 11 points from six matches.

Amorin claimed that the match against the Black Cats is going to be 'really tough,' and added,

"It is going to be a really tough match, they are doing really well and when you see the games, they draw with one less player and then they win in the final play against Brentford, the details are changing a lot the table so we need to pay attention to that."

“It is a team that plays really well, a clear system 4-3-3 with a lot of rotations on the side of the pitch. They are confident. It is clear we will be under pressure."

The Red Devils have a good record in league games against Sunderland at Old Trafford, with 13 victories in 16 matches.

It remains to be seen if Amorim & Co. are able to increase United's win tally against the Black Cats on Saturday.
