The January transfer window is approaching, and Manchester United are still looking for the right midfielder to fit their team.

Kobbie Mainoo looks increasingly likely to seek a loan move in the Janaury window, and neither Casemiro or Manual Ugarte are up to Ruben Amorim's standards.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, United have shortlisted five candidates for the midfield, with several coming from Premier League rivals.

Which midfielders are United looking at?

Brighton's Carlos Baleba remains a top choice for Amorim, but a January move is unlikely, especially with the Cameroonian not wanting to push for a move.

Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton is also being monitored, with the Englishman likely to cost around £70m midseason.

Outside of the Premier League, Jobe Bellingham is a target, as he struggles for minutes with Borussia Dortmund. The 20-year-old is said to be open to a loan move, especially with the World Cup on the horizon.

Porto's Victor Froholdt is another top choice, but he is also being looked at by other European clubs.

The final shortlisted midfielder is Sporting's Morten Hjulmand, who has previously been coached by Amorim.

The report form TEAMtalk indicates that United believe he could be signed for £50m, which is £20m cheaper than his release clause.

Amorim's relationship with the Danish midfielder could be a key factor in securing his signature, and the club belives he is a top player.
