Manchester United were on the receiving end of a crushing 3-0 defeat against Manchester City in their last Premier League match on September 14 at Etihad Stadium.

The result of the first Manchester derby of the season added to the Red Devils' underwhelming start to the campaign, where they have secured only one win, drawn one, and suffered two losses in the top flight so far.

Man United, who currently stand 14th in the league table with four points, suffered another blow when they were eliminated from the second round of the Carabao Cup after suffering a humiliating 12-11 loss on penalties against EFL League Two club Grimsby Town last month.

The Red Devils' struggles have raised questions about head coach Ruben Amorim and his tactics, especially considering that the Portuguese manager has led his squad to win only 17 out of 47 matches across all competitions since taking charge at Old Trafford in November 2024.

Now, a report from The Athletic has suggested that Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe visited Carrington on Thursday by helicopter and held meetings with Amorim as well as other senior figures in the club's hierarchy.

While this visit was reportedly planned beforehand, Man United's current form was a major topic of the agenda of the meeting.

What's next for Manchester United and Ruben Amorim?

Even though rumors about Amorim being sacked by Man United based on their performances in their next three Premier League games have been dismissed, the 40-year-old manager's possible failure to bring on better results in upcoming matches is expected to hurt his chances of being in charge at Old Trafford.

Man United will be hosting Chelsea at Old Trafford for their next Premier League clash on September 20. The Blues have been maintaining a four-match undefeated streak in the top flight so far.

Man United have a record against Chelsea at home with 13 victories in 33 Premier League games as opposed to the Blues' six wins, while the remaining 14 matches ended in a draw.
