Manchester United have made some new additions in the ongoing summer transfer window to strengthen their squad for the upcoming 2025/26 season.

The Red Devils faced another underwhelming run in the last campaign, ranking 15th in the Premier League, which is the lowest ever in the club's history.

Man United missed out on their only shot at lifting a major trophy last season after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur and will be left without any European football in the upcoming campaign for the first time since 2013–14.

While Ruben Amorim's squad will be looking to do their best in the domestic competitions in the 2025/26 campaign, there could be some significant fixtures that decide Man United's fate.

The Sporting News takes a look at the five league fixtures that could define Man United's upcoming league season.

Manchester City (Away) - September 13, 2025

The Manchester derby has always been one of the most significant games in the Premier League, and the first derby of the season has its charm.

Man United will be making the trip to the Etihad Stadium to face Man City on September 13, where Amorim's clan will be looking to bag a win to set the tone in the early stages of the season.

Both Manchester clubs have faced each other in 56 Premier League games so far, in which United have bagged 26 victories while City have secured 20 wins.

Liverpool (Away) - October 18, 2025

The Northwest derby is undoubtedly one of the biggest historical rivalries in English football. Man United have a good record against Liverpool in the Premier League, with 29 victories in 66 matches as opposed to the Reds' 20 wins.

However, both sides are tied at 12 wins when it comes to the 33 matches held at Anfield, with the remaining nine ending in a draw.

Liverpool's home stadium has always been considered one of the toughest grounds for opponents. In their upcoming trip to Anfield in October, Man United will be looking to maintain their share of dominance against their archrivals.

Arsenal (Away) - January 24, 2026

After ending up as runners-up in the Premier League for the third consecutive year last season, Arsenal will be pushing quite hard to earn the top spot this campaign.

Man United are pitted against Arsenal for the second time in the 2025/26 season on January 24, 2026, at the Emirates Stadium, where the Red Devils have not had a lot of luck in the past.

Man United have secured only eight wins as opposed to Arsenal's 16 victories in the 33 matches between them at the Emirates.

Leeds United (Home) - April 11, 2026

Leeds United have been promoted back to the Premier League for the 2025/26 season. This also brings back the chance for us to witness the historic rivalry between them and Man United.

Man United will be hosting Leeds at Old Trafford in April next year for the first time since 2022-23. Both sides have met each other on 30 occasions, where the Red Devils have bagged 17 victories as opposed to the latter's four wins.

Chelsea (Away) - April 18, 2026

Man United have not made many successful trips to Stamford Bridge in the past, with only six wins in 33 matches.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have defeated the Red Devils 14 times at home while the remaining 13 games ended in a draw.

Man United and Chelsea's second match of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign will be crucial for both sides, especially considering it is slated near the end of the season.
