Manchester City have been keen on acquiring Rayan Cherki's signature since the beginning of the summer transfer window.

Cherki's performances at Olympique Lyonnais in the season have attracted attention from several clubs, with Man City topping the list of suitors for the 21-year-old. He registered 12 goals and 20 assists in 44 appearances for the club in the campaign.

Just a few days back, it was reported that Man City are set to offer their opening bid for Cherki soon. The Frenchman is contracted with Lyon until the end of June 2026, and his demands initiated quite a big ask from the Ligue 1 club.

Reports also suggested that Man City have reached an agreement on personal terms with Cherki and will be submitting an offer to Lyon to secure the potential transfer.

Lyon have estimated their talented academy graduate between €35 to €40 million, according to Florian Plettenberg. And now, it turns out Man City's opening bid for Cherki has been rejected by the French club.

How much was Man City's opening bid for Rayan Cherki?

Man City's first offer to sign Cherki seems to not have matched Lyon's expectations, resulting in rejection, according to a report from Sacha Tavolieri.

The report mentioned that Man City’s opening bid for the winger was worth €23m and despite the initial offer being rejected, Cherki still remains a priority target for Guardiola & Co.

An improved offer from Man City is expected to be presented soon to Lyon as the Premier League side are looking for a swift transfer for Cherki so that he can be included in Guardiola's squad for the upcoming Club World Cup.
