Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has named Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard as one of the best players in the world at "scanning" the pitch and revealed how the Norwegian's game has influenced his own development.
The World Cup-winning midfielder lifted the lid on both in a candid interview, reflecting on lessons learned in the Premier League and the demands of competing at the highest level.
Speaking to The Players' Tribune, the Argentina international reflected on how his time under Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton elevated his tactical awareness, with Odegaard serving as the prime example.
"When De Zerbi came in, the main thing he helped me improve was my scanning of the field, my profiling of the situation. Taking little mental pictures of the chess board every two seconds," Mac Allister said.
"We looked at Odegaard as an example of this. For me, he's one of the best in the world at scanning. His head never stops moving. De Zerbi gave me this gift, and it really elevated my game."
The 26-year-old also gave an honest assessment of the demands of English football, agreeing with Pep Guardiola's claim that the Premier League is the toughest trophy to win.

"The Premier League is nine months. Mentally, physically, emotionally… it's murder," he said.
"Look at Mo, for example. You cannot imagine how hard he pushes himself to stay at the top in this league."
Mac Allister admitted he once tried - and failed - to match Salah's famous fitness regime.
"I asked him, 'Mo… when do you sleep?' He said, 'I don’t like it when I get more than seven hours. I feel tired.' Mo sets the tone for everyone at Liverpool.
"He is the best professional I've ever seen. He's a monster."
Liverpool begin their Premier League title defence against Bournemouth on Friday night at Anfield.
Arne Slot's side are favourites to win their league again after strengthening in the summer transfer window, although Mac Allister will not be available for selection against Bournemouth due to injury.
