Liverpool are hoping to retain their Premier League crown, especially by using their summer signings to the best effect.

Hugo Ekitike is already off to a flying start, with two goals and one assist already in the league.

Florian Wirtz hasn't gotten off to the start he would have wanted, with many fans criticizing the German attacker.

Wirtz responded to the criticism by scoring a stunning free kick in Germany's 3-1 win over Northern Ireland.

The 22-year-old also gave an honest response when asked about adjusting to life in the Premier League.

What did Wirtz say about his start to the Premier League?

Speaking to Germany's RTL network, Wirtz said, "It's another league, another type of football. I'm happy to be there.

"I have no idea when I'll score my first goal, hopefully in the next game, but it will come at some point."

Wirtz's free kick will certainly help the midfielder gain some much needed confidence, especially as he helped to end Germany's three game losing streak.

Liverpool's next Premier League match comes against Burnley on September 14, with the Clarets already conceding six goals this season, giving Wirtz another boost that he could be on the scoresheet.

After Burnley, Liverpool start their Champions League campaign against Atletico Madrid.

Wirtz scored six goals in the Champions League for Bayer Leverkusen last season, giving the young midfielder an impressive tally in the competition so far in his career.
