Liverpool target Marc Guehi all set for a move to European giants next summer image

Marc Guehi was one of the biggest misses of the deadline day in this season's summer transfer window as Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner blocked his last-minute move to Liverpool.

Glasner reportedly threatened Palace hierarchy with resignation if they went ahead with the sale of Guehi as he had no replacement in place.

Liverpool were desperate to sign the England international throughout the summer and just when it looked like they had cracked a deal, it was off.

Now, with Guehi's current contract coming to an end in the summer of 2026, he is allowed to negotiate with clubs from January.

Interestingly, Liverpool still hold the interest in the English defender as Ibrahima Konate is also going through a same situation at Anfield and the Reds are willing to replace Konate with Guehi.

However, recent reports via The Mirror will surely dampen Liverpool's spirits as Guehi has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid despite interest from multiple top clubs in Europe.

If this happens to be true then it will be a big blow for Arne Slot as the Dutchman will also lose Konate, who is also keen to move to Real Madrid while other clubs are also keeping an eye on the Frenchman.

How did Marc Guehi react following his failed Liverpool transfer on deadline day?

Guehi has been one of the most consistent centre-backs in the Premier League and hence he has been featuring regularly for the England national team.

He played a massive role in helping Palace win the FA Cup and followed it up with another exceptional performance against Liverpool in the FA Community Shield earlier this season.

Despite his links with Liverpool, Guehi showed utmost loyalty to Palace and delivered some great performances. He received a lot of praise for conducting himself with a lot of poise in this scenario.

He continued his heroics for England as well as he scored his first international goal in a 5-0 thumping against Serbia in the World Cup qualifiers.

Following the win, Guehi was asked about his feeling following the failed transfer to Liverpool and the 25-year-old was extremely respectful in his response.

"It's been great! It's always easy coming here, such a good group of players, good group of staff. We are all working towards one goal," Guehi told ITV.

"I'm just over the moon [to score his first goal] it's a fantastic feeling. You work really hard growing up, so to score a goal for your country is the best feeling."

Overall, if Real Madrid comes calling for the 25-year-old then it seems curtains for Liverpool as both the player and the club are on the same page.

Considering Los Blancos' dearth in centre-back position, it won't be surprising if they also sign Konate on a free transfer leaving Liverpool with limited options in the market.
