Liverpool’s late summer dealings could spark a domino effect across Europe with Marc Guehi’s future at Crystal Palace emerging as the key.
The Reds have submitted a £35m [$47m] bid for the 24-year-old defender, as manager Arne Slot searches for depth at center-back, after Jarrel Quansah joined Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the window.
Guehi has been a long-term target - with Reds convinced he and Alexander Isak are the missing pieces of a record-breaking transfer window - which has already seen Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Giovanni Leoni and Jeremie Frimpong arrive.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has offered an update the situation with a few moving pieces still relevant: "AC Milan send official bid to Liverpool for Joe Gomez, negotiations underway.
"Understand it’s permanent transfer proposal with clubs discussing terms.
"Joe Gomez will be allowed to leave if Marc Guehi joins."

The 28-year-old Gomez, who could reunite with England teammate Fikayo Tomori in Italy, remains only a backup to Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

His exit hinges entirely on Guehi’s availability, with Liverpool unwilling to sanction a departure without securing a replacement before the September 1 deadline.
Palace face their own dilemma, after chairman Steve Parish admitted earlier this month that losing Guehi on a free would be damaging, but they now have little choice to be sell.
"We’d have to do that, of course. For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it’s a problem for us unfortunately."
Guehi has entered the final year of his contract, leaving Palace little leverage if no extension is agreed, as the clock ticks down.
