Marcus Rashford’s troubles are no longer limited to the football pitch. The England international, currently on loan at Barcelona, is reportedly battling a costly crisis back home in Cheshire — and it’s got nothing to do with transfer fees or contracts.

The 27-year-old forward’s long-awaited dream home project has turned into a five-year headache.

Rashford bought the 63-acre plot, once a golf course and clubhouse, back in 2020 for £2.25 million. The plan was simple — to turn it into a luxury mansion fit for a Premier League star.

But five years on, the site remains unfinished, and the bills are piling up. Reports claim the total cost could now reach a staggering £15 million ($20m).

The project has faced everything from flooding issues to money disputes.

Work reportedly halted last year amid disagreements with contractors, leaving Rashford’s dream home looking more like a construction zone than a countryside retreat.

Neighbors raise eyebrows as concerns grow for Marcus Rashford

Locals have started voicing their frustrations. Roy Baker, an 80-year-old farmer who lives next door, told The Sun that someone “acting on behalf of Rashford” recently visited to ask about the situation.

“He said he deals with land disputes,” Baker said. “There’s a dispute about how much money they’ve paid out. He told me how much they had spent — it’s in the millions.”

Baker also pointed out the location issue. “His house is right where it’s boggy,” he explained. “We have a pump to keep the water out because the water table is so high. You can imagine next door going two floors down — it’s non-stop pumping out.”

Weeds and overgrown land have added to the neighbors’ frustration, with some saying certain plants from the site are poisonous to their animals.

“The costs involved are staggering, even for someone on £350,000 a week,” another local said.

A financial own goal?

Sources close to Rashford claim he’s instructed his finance team to investigate the situation. One insider reportedly said, “Marcus has spent millions on it already but faces spending millions more. He just wants to get it finished.”

Ben Smith, managing director of Noble Projects — the firm behind the build — insisted there’s no cause for concern, stating: “We have a long record of successful, prestige projects… We continue to deliver exceptional work levels.”

For now, Rashford is focusing on life in Spain, where he’s said to be enjoying the slower pace and fresh air.

But while he’s scoring goals for Barcelona, his unfinished home project might just be the toughest match he’s ever faced off the pitch.
