Barcelona’s handling of Robert Lewandowski has sparked a storm, and legendary Polish goalkeeper Jan Tomaszewski has now fired the loudest shot.
The outspoken former international has called for coach Hansi Flick to be shown the door, saying the German boss has failed to get the best out of the club’s star striker.
The drama began when Lewandowski, normally Barcelona’s main man in front of goal, was once again left on the bench in a midweek clash against Real Oviedo.
With the score level at 1-1, he came on and needed only five minutes to make an impact. A slick header from Frenkie de Jong set him up, and Lewandowski’s clever flick sealed the lead in a 3-1 win.
Fans celebrated the goal, but many were left asking why a proven goal machine is now being used as a late-game weapon rather than a 90-minute leader.

A ticking clock for Hansi Flick at Barcelona?

Tomaszewski certainly isn’t buying Flick’s cautious approach.
In a fiery chat with Super Express Sport, he said: “Barcelona have a squad for the Champions League, the most important trophy.
Unfortunately, the coaching staff should stick it out until the end, and I hope their contract isn’t extended, because ‘Mr. German’ isn’t performing very well. With such a footballing ‘gun,’ he should have won everything in Europe, and they lost to Inter, a good team, but the subsequent 5-0 final against PSG exposed them.”
Lewandowski, now 37, has quietly answered critics with goals despite limited minutes. He has scored three times off the bench this season, including a brace against Valencia.
Yet his reduced role feels like putting a Ferrari in the garage and only starting it on weekends.
Adding to the debate, Lewandowski finished just 17th in the 2025 Ballon d’Or vote despite another strong year. Tomaszewski argued he deserved a top-ten spot, but admitted, “The journalists decide where he’ll end up.”
Barcelona next face Real Sociedad, and the big question remains — will Flick finally start his star striker or keep playing a risky game of football chess?
