Marcus Rashford's run at Aston Villa for the season comes to an end. The 27-year-old arrived at Villa Park from Manchester United on loan in February for the remainder of the ongoing campaign.

Aston Villa are set to host Tottenham Hotspur on Friday, May 16, 2025. Speaking ahead of the upcoming Premier League clash, head coach Unai Emery confirmed Rashford's unavailability for the match.

Rashford suffered a hamstring injury in April and has been sidelined since, missing four matches for Aston Villa so far.

In his pre-match press conference, Emery provided an update on his squad's injuries and suspensions while mentioning (comments via BBC Sport) that Rashford 'can't play next week.'

"Youri (Tielemans) and Marcus are not available and (Jacob) Ramsey is suspended and other players are ready. We have to do each step forward, testing and analysing how they are recovering. I don't know exactly if they (injured players) will be (available next week). Marcus can't play next week. But they are working in the facilities every day and they are feeling better," said Emery.

While Emery's update on Rashford's injury explained his absence this week, questions surfaced about why the Englishman will not be on the pitch for Aston Villa in the next one, even if he is fit.

Aston Villa will face Manchester United in their last League match of the season on May 25 at Old Trafford.

The Premier League loan regulations bar a player (loanee) from facing their parent club, preventing Rashford from featuring next Sunday.

Is Marcus Rashford's journey at Aston Villa over?

Rashford's arrival at Aston Villa came after the winger ended up in Man United head coach Ruben Amorim's bad books. The English star was also on the receiving end of heavy criticism for his underwhelming performance for the Red Devils this season, registering seven goals and three assists in 24 appearances.

However, things turned around for Rashford at Villa Park, with him netting four goals and providing six assists in 17 matches. Earlier, he had also mentioned that he is looking for a new challenge, suggesting a move away from Man United.

While Rashford's impressive loan stint at Aston Villa has reached its end, questions arise as to whether this is his final goodbye to the club as well. His loan deal includes an option of a permanent move to Villa Park for a reported fee of £40 million.

No official announcement from either club or player has been made as of yet about Rashford's future. It remains to be seen if the Man United graduate returns to Old Trafford by the end of this season or joins Aston Villa, concluding a decade-long journey with the Red Devils.
