Arsenal are easily one of the most active teams ahead of the summer transfer window. While the Gunners are working in the background with their transfer shortlist, they are also looking to extend the contracts of their existing players.

Although Arsenal finished second in the recently concluded Premier League campaign, they had the best defensive record. They conceded only 34 goals in 38 league games, seven fewer than the champions, Liverpool.

A significant factor in their defensive astuteness was the pairing of Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba at the heart of their backline.

Therefore, Arsenal are in advanced talks with Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes as per reports via BBC Sport.

The 27-year-old defender's current contract runs until 2027, and as per reports, the North London outfit are looking to offer him a fresh three-year contract.

The club and Gabriel's representatives have intensified talks of a contract extension. Hence, Arsenal are confident of keeping the Brazilian in North London for the foreseeable future.

Gabriel had a splendid 2024/25 campaign until he got injured

Gabriel has been one of the key players for Arteta this season, as they looked like a team that could challenge for the Premier League crown early on. However, the Brazilian's season was curtailed due to a hamstring injury.

He missed a big chunk of the season where Arsenal desperately needed his consistency, reliability and leadership in defence.

Nevertheless, he was easily one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League this season and therefore Arsenal are doing their best to extend his contract.

Overall, Gabriel featured in 42 appearances for Arsenal and scored five goals. He was integral to the Gunners' defence, especially in defending setpieces.
