Pakistan had another tough day with the bat in the Asia Cup 2025. Seeing his old team struggle, former cricketer Yasir Hameed simply wrote on X, “Bring back Babar Azam.”

The message came after Pakistan could not score much against Bangladesh in an important Super 4 match.

With a modest 135/8 on the board, questions about the team’s balance and missing stars have intensified.

Pakistan struggled with the bat against Bangladesh

Pakistan started their innings with high hopes, but things quickly went wrong. Sahibzada Farhan got out early for just 4 runs, and Saim Ayub fell for his fourth duck in the tournament.

Fakhar Zaman and Hussain Talat could not make an impact either, leaving Pakistan reeling at 47/4 in the 10th over.

Bangladesh bowlers, led by Taskin Ahmed and Rishad Hossain, exploited the humid conditions perfectly. They kept the pace tight and forced mistakes. The top order simply couldn’t get settled and the innings looked in serious trouble.

After the early collapse, Pakistan needed someone to take charge. Shaheen Shah Afridi came out swinging and hit a couple of boundaries to lift the team slightly.

Mohammad Haris and Mohammad Nawaz chipped in with useful runs, hitting timely sixes and taking Pakistan past the 130-run mark.

Their partnership was crucial to give Pakistan a total they could at least try to defend. Even though Pakistan scored only 135/8, their bowlers showed grit and fighting spirit.

Shaheen, Rauf, and the spinners Abrar, Saim, and Nawaz all contributed by taking key wickets and holding pressure in the middle overs. Eventually, Pakistan won by 11 runs.

Yasir Hameed is calling for Babar Azam’s return

Babar Azam has been away from Pakistan’s T20I squad for a while now. He missed the series against Bangladesh, the West Indies tour, and the UAE tri-series. In the ODIs against West Indies, he scored only 56 runs in three games.

Seeing Pakistan’s batting struggle so much, Yasir Hameed’s call to bring him back resonated with fans.

Many believe Pakistan needs Babar’s stability and experience at the top to anchor the innings and provide some leadership in crunch situations.
