Abhishek Sharma bigger talent than Yuvraj Singh? Former Pakistan cricketer’s bold claim triggers debate during Asia Cup 2025 image

Abhishek Sharma's fearless batting in the Asia Cup 2025 has made him one of the tournament's biggest talking points. The young opener has been attacking with his six-hitting ability - giving India flying starts in almost every game.

His performances have also sparked comparisons with some of India's greatest white-ball match-winners - including Yuvraj Singh. Now, a bold claim from a former Pakistan cricketer has added more fuel to the debate.

Tanvir Ahmed hails Abhishek Sharma as bigger talent than Yuvraj

Speaking on PTV Sports, former Pakistan fast bowler Tanvir Ahmed suggested that Abhishek may possess even greater natural talent than Yuvraj Singh.

He pointed out the difference in batting approaches between the two - saying how Yuvraj often took his time to settle against spinners before switching gears later in the innings.

"Yuvraj Singh was a natural talent, no doubt. But he would usually build his innings once spinners came on and the ball got older, working singles and then attacking later. Abhishek, on the other hand, is striking sixes against the new ball right from the start. That's why I feel he is an even bigger talent than Yuvraj," Ahmed said.

The comment has divided opinions across fans and experts. While Abhishek's ability to dominate from ball one has drawn praise, Yuvraj's record as a match-winner in two World Cups remains unmatched.

Many believe it's too early to draw such parallels given Abhishek's short international career - though his fearless approach has undeniably brought freshness to India's top order.

As India eye the Asia Cup title, Abhishek Sharma's performances will remain under close watch. And so will the growing debate over whether he can match, or even surpass, the legacy of Yuvraj Singh.
