How did Harmanpreet and Smriti’s iconic moment happen after India’s victory?
November 2, 2025, will forever remain a special date in Indian cricket. After years of near misses, India’s women finally lifted their first-ever World Cup trophy as they defeated South Africa by 52 runs.
The Indian women had come close before but they lost heartbreaking finals in 2005 and 2017. But in 2025, they turned their dream into reality.
As the final wicket fell, the DY Patil Stadium erupted in celebration. Amid tears, hugs, and fireworks, Mandhana and Harmanpreet stood shoulder to shoulder. They lifted the flag proudly above their heads, the same way Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had done after winning the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup in Barbados.

Rohit and Virat had captured hearts with a similar photograph after India’s thrilling win over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final. It was a long-awaited ICC trophy for the men’s team after 11 years.
Rohit’s leadership and Kohli’s match-winning 76 had guided India to victory that night in Barbados. Fast forward to 2025, Harmanpreet and Smriti recreated that emotion in their own way.
