Cricket made a rare appearance on Wall Street this week, with Sachin Tendulkar joining National Cricket League (NCL) chairman Arun Agarwal to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
The moment, staged just hours before the league's inaugural game in Dallas, was symbolic in more ways than one. By stepping onto the NYSE podium, cricket signaled its intent to carve out a serious place in the U.S. sporting and business landscape.

Sachin Tendulkar's message on global connection
According to a press release, Tendulkar described the bell-ringing as more than a formality. He said it was a reminder of cricket's ability to connect fans across borders, much like financial markets connect investors around the world.

NYSE's endorsement of cricket's arrival
NYSE president Bryan Daniel also underlined the event's significance. He said that the bell traditionally marks leadership and vision, and hosting Tendulkar alongside the NCL reflected cricket's entry into America's financial and cultural mainstream.
"Today, with Sachin Tendulkar and the National Cricket League on this stage, we celebrate more than a game - we celebrate a global sport stepping into America's financial and cultural spotlight," Daniel said.
Push for cricket in U.S.A.
Agarwal stressed that the league's ambitions go beyond the tournament itself. He said the NCL aims to bridge "Wall Street to Main Street" while giving the sport a grassroots foundation in the U.S.
On the same day, NCL players, including Brian Lara, visited a Dallas high school to introduce students to cricket for the first time. The NYSE ceremony marked a strong signal of intent: cricket is not just here to entertain but to stake its claim in America's business and sporting future.
