The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to take the Asia Cup trophy controversy to the International Cricket Council (ICC) after waiting for over a month.
Despite India’s victory in the 2025 Asia Cup, the winning trophy is still in the custody of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and that has led to growing frustration within the Indian board.

The matter will reportedly be brought up in the ICC’s quarterly meeting scheduled for November 4. The BCCI has already communicated its disappointment over the delay and is now ready to take the issue to the highest level if the handover does not happen soon.
Why has the Asia Cup trophy not reached India yet?
After India’s thrilling win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final on September 28 in Dubai, the trophy presentation ceremony took a strange turn.
The Indian team refused to accept the trophy from ACC president Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s interior minister and the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Following that, the trophy was quietly removed from the stage by ACC officials without any formal explanation. Since then, it has not been handed over to India, despite several reminders from the BCCI.
BCCI joint secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board had officially written to the ACC chairman about ten days ago but received no response. “Yes, we are unhappy with how this has gone. The trophy is still not given to us even after a month,” Saikia said.

Saikia stated that the BCCI would not let the matter slide and will raise it at the ICC meeting in Dubai next week if the issue remains unresolved. “We are pursuing it officially, and if the trophy doesn’t arrive in a day or two, we will take it up in the ICC meeting,” he said.
He also made it clear that the board is fully confident that the trophy will eventually come to India. “We have won the championship. Everything is on record. The trophy is just missing. One day, it will definitely come back,” Saikia added.
The BCCI remains firm that India’s victory is undisputed and hopes that “good sense will prevail” on the ACC’s side.
What is Mohsin Naqvi’s response on giving the Asia cup 2025 Trophy to India?
ACC president Mohsin Naqvi has maintained that he is ready to hand over the trophy but insists that India should send a representative to collect it from him directly.
This has added to the ongoing deadlock, as the BCCI has shown no intention of sending anyone for a formal handover ceremony.
For now, the Asia Cup trophy continues to remain out of India’s reach. With BCCI now escalating the issue to the ICC, the matter could soon take a more serious turn in the global cricketing arena.
