After a two-year cycle of Test matches, it's time for the ultimate showdown as South Africa takes on Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final.

The Proteas will be led by Temba Bavuma, were the first to book their spot for the WTC final clash this year. They finished top of the WTC standings for the 2023-25 cycle.

Defending champions Australia, captained by Pat Cummins, managed to secure the second spot after a challenging battle with India at home, winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series 4-1.

Who won the WTC 2023 final?

Australia won the 2023 edition of the World Test Championship after beating India in the final by 209 runs at the Oval.

Travis Head was declared the Player of the Match for his crucial innings of 163 runs in the first innings. His 285-run partnership with Steve Smith (121) helped the Aussies post a total of 469 runs batting first.

After bowling out India for just 296, they extended their lead in the second innings, declaring at 270/8 and setting a target of 443 for the Indians.

Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon were the pick of the bowlers when defending the total as Australia clinched their maiden WTC mace. This was also India's second straight defeat in the WTC final after losing the inaugural edition in 2021 to New Zealand.
